Online Writing Lab from Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana, USA) – articles and information on all aspects of academic writing. Useful across a range of years, but especially useful for IGCSE and IB classes. Quite high-level articles, but could be adapted.
Very similar to above. Quite high-level articles, but could be adapted.
Creating Citation Lists
There is probably going to be an element of personal preference over this, but I think that EasyBib is easier to use: I compiled a ten-book bibliography in under ten minutes, and it is easier to do things with the citations (eg sort, save, e-mail) than with bibme.
Some of my colleagues prefer this one. Then again, some of my colleagues also like Starbucks and Morris Dancing.
Shareable Lesson Plans and Worksheets
Games and Simulations
A good set of educational “games” for most subjects. They could be lesson-fillers, competitions, or even the basis of whole lessons.
A simulation - definitely not a game. The idea is to keep a generic under-developed country family of four alive as long as possible. Quite basic, but very interesting - I have seen students quite moved by it. Useful for Global Politics, Geography, English, and ToK.
It's very easy to understand once you open it - I have used it with Primary age students. Only available online at the moment, but the developers told me that they are are planning on an updated and downloadable version as and when they can find time.
OK, so this actually has nothing at all to do with English teaching, but EVERYONE should play this game at least once … just imagine it is your least favourite student or colleague you are hitting.
Go on, have a wild guess at what this website helps you to do …
ACTIVITIES AND DOWN-LOADABLE STUFF
Masses and masses of activities, information, and fillers – everything one can think of and more besides… and ALL FREE. Pretty much aimed at the Primary age-range, but there is something useable for everyone if you look. Supported by ads, but easy to scroll past those.
A bit like the one above. A paid-for membership gives you access to a lot more, but there is a lot of free stuff.
Easy creation of flash-cards … lots of stuff already loaded up by other people.
